Life
My Tree
I want my child to be just like me
We plant a seed and watch it grow
what will it be, I wish I could know
No matter what it is we sow
I think it's a tree that we want to grow

We water it and tend it, and watch it go
we worry when cold winter winds do blow

We try not to prune to contain it's will
but maybe set a trellis to keep it from ill
Maybe it will grow to be, just what it should be
When it's grown, if we've been blessed
it will have its roots planted in the nest

Its branches will extend to places good and bad
and experiences that only it has had

Hopefully it's trunk will be straight and true
not swayed by breeze nor ill wind too

With leaves that reach for the Son above,
and roots firmly set down here in love
It's our tree
thank you Eddie
It comes to you now
comes right on cue
One look in the mirror
you realize it's true

Age
What timeless beauty
age brings to life
Yet one's endless history
is so full of strife
The drama of change
plays out so true
The future will bring
a new setting to you
So wrestle with time,
your efforts are fruitless
With an enemy so clever,
and often just ruthless
There is nothing quite like it
it comes in the night
Comes to us all
no matter how we fight

Look in your eyes
you see time so cruel
Swear you'll not accept
this old golden rule
Fight to the end
your youth's still inside
For your body may age
but your soul not abide
The Gift
The gift, where does it come from
given to all, not just to some
We don 't ask for it, nor pay for it, at first
once we get it, it turns, it turns to a thirst
It's pure
It's clean
It's completely pristine
The children, they use it so well
they find it totally awesome, or is it real swell
They don't think of it, or analyze it, it's fun
they have it, grab it, take it and run
So neat
So sweet
So totally complete
Their laughter, the laughter comes from the heart
the love that they have, they have from the start
Don't lose it, but use it, avoid any waste
try and remember, always remember, you get only one taste
With love
From above
Like a beautiful dove
Learn from the children, watch their little eyes
They just know how to live, their spirit how it flies
No teacher, no books, has taught them their cheer
they're born, so full of life, and ever so dear
Change
Change,
it happens so strange.

Never is it smooth
nor quite easy
How it comes about
makes me queasy.

Without,
you know we can't go about.

If we stayed the same
it would surely be a shame
This change we cannot do
without, for long, too.

Move,
you try to go smooth.

To change
can mean to live.
Without some give
you will never grow.

Go,
this is all you know.

Toward,
if you are lucky you'll go forward.

To send
in the future you will end.
Old
Oh for the young, the young, the young
could you face life
if you knew, in your direction
the number of arrows to be slung
Your timeless, ageless energy
never pausing, but to amaze
evoking envy from the cage
forged from the frustration of age
I Want
I'm just a big kid
ready to blow my lid

This world, this damned world
how can it do this to me
make me feel like a king
and at the next moment
like a pea

I can't have what I want
I can't want what I have
I have to live on
live on feeling great
followed by drab

Give it to me
all the world I want to see
I want the quiet life
at home with the kids
a pillar of the community

I'd travel all over
stay home all the time
adventures without end
peaceful evenings, the days melt
is that the start bell, or the wind chime

In my mind
the turmoil it grows
till one day
one day my lid
my lid just blows
Care
What would you do
if God wasn't there
Or if He just,
just didn't care
Would we
any of us despair.

Please do tell
who is it would care to try
Does the idea frighten you
or even make you cry
Could you,
would you dare to die

When the time came
that you did
In the next world
your welcome who would bid
Once and for all
of this earthly life you are rid.
Who is it would care?
If we looked
and God was not around
Why, what rules
to which would we be bound
In what state
should our world be found

Would it be that we
could act without rule
What need would there be,
should there be for a school
Would we all just up
and play the fool

Oh to be but a simple
pure hedonist
Ah the temptations,
the temptations we need not resist
And the pleasure,
would the pleasure ever subsist

If God wasn't there
This lifestyle
would our needs it fulfill
Our restless hearts
would all of this somehow still
Might we ever even know
when we've had our fill

Yes, the grass it can be
a much better shade of green
Over with those who live high
even though selfish and mean
Particularly looking in
from over here with the lean
Yet you know, how you know
that deep down inside
There is that thing from
which you can't hide
It is the thread
through which we're all tied
It's made from a pair
It is but love
so pure and simple and true
The fact that God
He is me and is you
Neither is one
without the other one too

We were all brought
to exist
When He gently
opened His fist
And to us
first life His breath kissed

Ore the mighty Jordan
to free will we all ford
yet in this world
over our umbilical cord
It is only we...
each holds his own sword

We make life fair
In our hand
we each have the power
Our flesh, our soul
the pleasures we cannot allow to devour
For each shall leave this body
in their final hour

Through our soul
tis that we are constantly fed
Back to God,
if we listen, we are gently led
We need only pay heed
to what He has said

Oh, to exist forever,
forever as one
On this journey on which
we have surely just begun
We must choose,
choose to follow the Son

Simply join with Him…care and be one
