Starting Course - Section 3
My Power
(Your Power)

Creation

I create the world.

You create the world.

Together we create the world.

You have the power of creation!

What does it mean to create?

I create the world and you create the world

means that I have what is often thought of as superpowers,

or godlike powers.

You have these powers as well.

Every human being has these powers.

They come with,

and are an integral part of, being human,

and they develop as a person grows.

These powers are very real.

A person has no choice in having them.

They come along with our mind, heart and soul.

In other words,

they are an essential part of our being

or our very essence.

We have them from conception to death.

It is relatively simple to understand,

the power of creation which you and I possess.

The Physical world

Sight, vision, or rather, seeing the world,

is a great starting place.

Activity

Close your eyes for a moment.

Think about what happens when you opened them?

Look around you.

Look at all the things you see.

Look at everything you can take in at a glance.

When you open your eyes,

rays of light hit them,

stimulating the cells within your eyes,

and the cells then sent signals to your brain.

There are light waves bouncing off of everything around you.

The different length and intensity of the light waves

determine the colors we perceive.

My eyes are able to take in the reflected waves of light around me

and create the perception of different colors.

My eyes can receive, and my brain can also interpret and separate,

the different timing and direction of these rays hitting my eyes,

distinguishing the objects I perceive.

In other words,

I can see different shapes, and sizes of objects,

as well as the distance the objects are from me.

This ability allows me to separate the rays coming from the front of the table,

from those ones coming from the back of the table,

and rays coming from the top and bottom of the table,

the floor from the ceiling and wall,

and the things on the table,

thus, allowing me to locate the table,

and giving it shape and depth.

My brain can separate the rays coming from the wall,

from those bouncing off of the table,

even if they are the same color,

by distinguishing the timing of the rays hitting my eyes.

Therefore, I can distinguish the brown table from the brown wall.

There are rays of light coming from the screen you are reading this on.

Your brain can distinguish the color of the light coming from the letters,

from the color of the background rays of light,

as well as the different shapes and organization of the shapes.

You have learned how to distinguish all of these different rays of light

and group them into letters and words.

Thus, you create the meaning for the different rays of light,

or in more familiar terms,

you can read!

If these words were written in another language which I did not understand,

then I, through my mind and brain,

would not be able to assemble them into something I could understand.

I would not be able to give the rays if light meaning.

If the only rays that bounced off of the objects in the room

were of a frequency which did nor stimulate the cells in my eyes,

then my brain would have no input

and I would see nothing.

I would be blind,

and would not be aware of any objects around me.

In this way my senses and brain assemble the world around me

into something I understand.

This is Creation.

Turn off all the lights,

make the room completely dark,

and nothing exists around me,

so far as I am aware of anything.

The same exercise can be done for all human sensory input.

Our sensory perception creates our awareness of the world.

Now, it is somewhat easy to argue that,

it is a bit of a stretch to go from the perception and interpretation

of objects in the universe,

to the idea of creation.

In other words, it is generally accepted that objects exist,

and were created before I ever existed.

However, that generally accepted belief

carries some uncertainty.

I cannot be 100% certain about the world around me,

simply because all I know of the objects in the universe

comes from my sensory input.

I believe objects exist because my brain has interpreted

the input it receives from my senses and creates meaning.

The same could be said for the energy

or various forces in the universe.

The uncertainty is very, very small,

but it is less than the 100% certainty of the knowledge that I exist,

as was discussed in Section 2.

This way of perceiving, assembling and creating meaning for the world outside of me

is very powerful when combined with the fact that

the world only happens to one person at a time.

No other person can see or perceived the world from my perspective.

Thus, I can never be 100% certain that you see the world around you as I see it,

nor can you be 100% certain of how I see the world.

The philosophical way of stating the form of creation I am discussing,

where I assemble the world based on my sensory input,

is to say that I construction meaning out of the input I receive,

but I do not actually create the object.

This is a challenging philosophical and scientific question,

which has been discussed in a variety of ways without resolution,

for centuries.

However, the ideas we can derive from this discussion

are extremely important to understanding the power you and I possess.

I believe that there is a world external to me,

within which I was created and exist,

and somehow it came into being or was created before I was created.

However, there is a critical part of the world which I create,

and you create,

in its entirety,

for which we are 100% responsible for its creation and existence.

I am going to use some of the ideas from this way of looking at the physical world,

discussed above,

to help you develop an understanding of this part of the universe

for which you and I are 100% responsible for creating.

We create the social world - 100% of it!

Transition

From Creation of the physical world

to creation of the social world

A big part of the logic of the argument above, about how we create the world,

is tied to the fact that

there are a lot of particles and waves traveling around the universe,

which we cannot perceive with our senses.

For example,

we cannot directly perceive the ultraviolet light, x-rays or radio waves around us.

Yet they are there all the time.

However, in modern times,

we have developed methods of detecting them,

and creating meaning from them.

Analogy from Modern Inventions

We now have devices

which can receive different frequencies of waves traveling around the universe,

such as radio waves and x-rays.

These devices change these frequencies into ones we can perceive,

so we can create meaning from them,

or understand them.

In other words, the devices change the frequency emitted by an object,

into one we can hear or see.

A simple example of this is what a radio, television, or cell phone does.

I cannot perceive the radio wave, or signal, being picked up by my radio antenna

until the components of the radio

change the wave into one I can perceive,

sound waves in the right frequency or range for my ears.

The device, a radio, changes the energy wave into an electrical pulse,

which vibrates the drum in a speaker,

which creates a sound wave which is perceivable by my ears.

In a similar fashion,

I cannot perceive the signal being picked up by my television antenna,

until the television changes the waves into the proper frequency,

that is, light of a frequency which stimulates my eyes,

which is projected from the screen toward my eyes.

The radio or TV signal is there, in the room with me,

or is running through the cable connected to the TV or radio.

Obviously, if I look at, or try to listen to, the end of the cable,

I will not perceive anything.

Just as the radio or TV assembles the signal,

so to, I assemble the input all around me,

and in that sense, I create the world.

As I have mentioned,

it is not difficult to argue that I do not create the objects in the world around me.

That is to say that in the physical world,

there is something there,

that I do not create it,

but simply perceive.

That is why I use the word assemble.

The discussion,

related to how we create, or assemble, the physical world,

is explored in the study of the philosophy of science.

The Social world

Social Creation - Human Creation

What I want to turn to now is what you and I create completely,

and in its entirety,

creation which is 100% human.

It is what you create,

and every other human being creates.

It is our superpower,

your and my godlike power,

to create in the universe.

It is the creative power that we possess,

which will lead to happiness and flourishing

for you, me, and all of us.
